One of the most important events in the history of the world is seemingly overlooked in today’s world. That is the story of God sending his only begotten son to Earth to be a sacrifice for our sins. Whose sins? Whosever calls on His name.
Christ lived on Earth. He taught, trained disciples. He was the supreme example to them and all mankind. He was “the supreme example” in word and deed. He made His disciples to become “fishers of men.” (Most of them were fishermen.)
Whether mankind believes it or not, it doesn’t change the truth. God is the creator of Heaven and Earth. If Adam and Eve had followed God’s instructions, we would not be in the turmoil we are in today. The one, the only thing He told them not to do, they did it.
God loved His creation so much He made a way for us to be redeemed. He sent His son to die on the cross. It is our decision to accept Him as our personal savior or not!
I truly believe at one time or another in our life, Jesus, one way or another, knocks at our heart’s door. Only we can open teh door and let Him in. We have to ask Him in. There is a song that is so meaningful. I might not have all the words right. It is “Take Up Thy Cross.”
“I walked one day along a country road, and there a stranger journeyed too. Bent low beneath the burden of His load, it was, it was, the cross I knew. ‘Take up thy cross and follow me.’ I heard the blessed savior call. How can I make a lesser sacrifice when Jesus paid it all? The cross I will carry until my crown appears. The road I journey soon shall end. When Christ Himself shall wipe away all tears and friends hold fellowship with friends.”
What does this song mean to you? To me it means we are to pray and follow Him until He comes back for His chosen or He calls us home. What is your cross? I believe we are to be faithful in whatever job He has called us to do. Some are listed in The Bible. The things we are called to do are from pastor, evangelist, teacher, etc. There are so many. But the one thing we are to be, is faithful. I am so glad no one could hurt John or Peter’s feelings. I am so glad they did not lay down their cross and forget their calling or say let someone else do it. I am surely not telling you that I have never failed God, but I can tell you with boldness, He has never failed me. When I started writing columns for the Press, I never dreamed I would be doing it 50 years later. What are you supposed to be doing? As I see it, you better reconsider. Look around. We are like the Israelites facing the Red Sea and Pharaoh’s army behind. However you want to interpret it, this great nation, whose beginnings were so they could worship God as The Bible taught, are being swallowed up. Why? So many crosses have been laid down, thrown away. It is not important, let someone else do it. Our hope is found in II Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, which are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray, seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven and forgive their sins and heal their land.” God bless.
